It’s possible to access the following in the detailed record:

  • Access to the complete record of the publication to consult information about:
    • The location of the publication;
    • Reference number (the label on the spine of the copy);
    • The status of the publication (available, borrowed, or reserved);

Reference - localisation

 

A reference number is an alphanumeric code which is printed on a label that is affixed to the spine of
documents and which enable one to locate the book on the book shelf. It reflects the topic of the work and
assists locate the documents on the Library shelves.

The majority of the documents in the ISEG Library catalogue have a reference number composed of three
elements.

All the publications on display in open-access are classified according to the Library of the United States
Congress Classification Plan
.

 

This plan is alphanumerical from A to Z in the specific case of the ISEG Library, which is the principal collection in the country in the areas of Economics, Finance, Management, and Auxiliary Sciences, nearly all of which are in the H Class – Social Sciences.

How to look for a book on the shelf

 

Procedures:

  1. Firstly, locate the floor which corresponds to the letters HF (Floor2);
  2. Identify the book shelf, and then find the work;
  3. At the top of each book shelf there is a plaque which identifies the range of reference numbers for this
    book shelf;
  4. Identify the book shelf, and then just follow the numbering of the subject, the author, and the date.
    The order is alphanumeric.

 

 

Narrowing down results

 

When a large amount of entries are returned, the search can be narrowed down by using the options that
feature on the left-hand side of the screen, namely:

  • Availability;

  • Authors;

  • Type of document;

  • Libraries;

  • Localisations;

  • Locations;

  • Collection;

  • Subject.
